Course Description

Chemistry at the Honors level is a rigorous investigation of theoretical and quantitative aspects of chemistry including chemical bonding, atomic structure, stoichiometry, periodicity, kinetics, and equilibrium. Concepts and ideas are presented through class discussion, readings and laboratory experiments, with students working independently to build understanding. Solid math skills and ability to use inferential reasoning are expected of students enrolling in honors. Students are expected to perform laboratory experiments and write lab reports with well thought out and reasoned conclusions based on their own independent analysis. They are also expected to do independent reading, to apply algebra skills with minimal review, to solve novel problems, and to express their understanding in clear, coherent writing. All students are required to complete a group research project. Nightly homework focuses on reviewing class notes, problem solving, and preparation for new material the following day.
